Over 100 years old, Goldenberg Peanut Chews were created in 1917 by Romanian immigrant David Goldenberg. This candy was developed as a high-energy, high-protein ration for WWI soldiers. The candy was so popular among troops they created a wrapped version for commercial sale after the war.
In 1940 The Goldenberg company realized they created a winner and stopped production of all other candy to focus on the Peanut Chew. Peanut chews have been produced in their Philadelphia factory since their beginning. In 2003 Just Born purchased Goldenberg Peanut Chews and continued production at the original location. This candy is truly a local favorite. If you look a the bar code you will see the liberty bell that signifies the city of brotherly love where this candy is still created today!
